Roll up! Roll up! The circus is coming to town.

Internationally renowned Circus Oz is back again to warm hearts and raise pulses as the headline act for the City Renewal Authority’s annual Winter in the City program this school holidays.

Running from Wednesday, 8 July, to Saturday, 18 July, the free event is designed to keep the CBD humming during the depths of winter with 40 high-energy performances on a 14-metre-wide elevated stage on City Walk, near the merry-go-round.

Circus Oz’s afternoon shows will be a hard act to follow, but Flux Entertainment is sure to dazzle when it plays with fire in three spectacular performances a night.

Following a run of ticketed touring performances in New York and the premiere of its new show at the Melbourne Comedy Festival to rave reviews, Circus Oz are bringing Here, There and Everywhere! to Canberra.

The new show is a fusion of comedy, clowning, acrobatics, sly jokes, flying trapeze, juggling, and daredevil stunts, powered by a raucous live band.

Flux Entertainment will light up the night with choreographed fire shows that blend cutting-edge performance art with crowd-thrilling energy.

Circus Oz and Flux will perform daily from 3:30 pm to 7:45 pm, except for Monday, 13 July, a designated rest day.

What pyrotechnics wizards Flux Entertainment do with fire will amaze.

CRA executive group manager, enabling operations, Jennifer Ramsay, said the free event supported local businesses, activated the city in an otherwise quiet time, and helped position Canberra as a go-to winter destination.

Ms Ramsay said that last year the Winter in the City program attracted more than 41,000 attendees and contributed an estimated $4.4 million in spending to the city centre.

“We hope that we see a similar number of Canberrans enjoying the free entertainment this year,” she said.

Flux Entertainment will light up the night with its choreographed fire shows that blend cutting-edge performance art with crowd-thrilling energy.

“We’re fire dancers,” co-founder Kris Thiesfield says. “We do fire spinning, fire performing, and then we’ve included our own handheld pyrotechnics in the shows as well, which is where we dance with fireworks coming out the ends of our props.”

To warm the insides, City Walk’s Centro Café will run a hot chocolate stall alongside a winter bar from Central Social Club.

Between performances, visitors are encouraged to explore nearby restaurants, bars, and cafés, with a range of options listed in the event program at In The City.

No bookings are required. A limited amount of bleacher-style seating is available.

Winter in the City is co-funded by the City Centre Marketing and Improvements Levy.
