“If you’ve had a few too many margaritas with dinner, please don’t get behind the wheel, and definitely don’t do [doughnuts] on the courthouse lawn,” read the post.
“We encourage everyone to enjoy themselves responsibly and always make arrangements for a safe ride home if you’ve been drinking.”
Court documents cited by local outlet WTHR show Wilkerson and a female passenger had been drinking jumbo margaritas at a nearby Mexican restaurant before she mounted the kerb and drove on to the courthouse lawn.
According to the broadcaster, a waiter told police that Wilkerson finished her own margarita and then consumed the remainder of her friend’s drink too.
Authorities said the vehicle damaged a sign on the courthouse grounds but narrowly avoided several other objects, including a large tree, light poles and a brick bench.
When emergency responders arrived, Wilkerson allegedly told officers she was “fine” and attempted to shift the vehicle into drive while the engine was switched off, WTHR reported. Court records also indicate she struggled to tell medics what day or year it was.
Police further alleged that when questioned about driving in circles on the courthouse lawn, Wilkerson attempted to start the vehicle again.
According to court filings, she later told investigators she had not eaten that day and believed the margaritas had been unusually strong.
