Hijabs will be allowed inside the athlete’s village at the Paris 2024 Olympics, despite France banning its team members from wearing them.

The International Olympic Committee clarified France’s regulation will not apply to other countries taking part.

An IOC spokesperson said, “for the Olympic Village, the IOC rules apply.”

“There are no restrictions on wearing the hijab or any other religious or cultural attire.

“When it comes to competitions, the regulations set by the relevant International Federation (IF) apply.

The decision by France has been criticised by the United Nations Human Rights Office.
