This soon-to-be married couple made the controversial decision to stop sharing a bed together due to the husband-to-be’s horrendous snoring.
Chantel Billy, 26, and her fiancé Jackson, 27, both from Melbourne, shared a bed for the past three years before they ultimately decided to move into separate rooms.
Hollywood icon Cameron Diaz recently hit headlines after saying she thinks that long-term couples sleeping in separate bedrooms should be ‘normalised’. The couple received plenty of negative comments after posting their decision online.

“I think it’s fantastic that Cameron Diaz wants to normalise couples having separate bedrooms,” Chantel said.
“Many people accused my relationship of failing, saying that my partner didn’t love me anymore and that he didn’t find me attractive anymore.
“Me and my partner have been more intimate than ever, now that I’m able to get eight hours of sleep.”

“I would often wake up tired and irritated”
Two months after the couple started dating in 2020, Chantel and Jackson made the leap to move in together.
For the next few years, the pair shared a bed, where most nights Jackson would go and sleep on the sofa to give his other half the chance at getting a good rest.
Chantel stated how these sleepless nights impacted her mental health as well as her ability to cope with the stresses of everyday life.
She also revealed how, despite Jackson compromising by doing what he could to help her get to sleep, his energy levels and mood were extremely depleted by the constant tussle of a bedtime routine.
“The snoring completely impacted my ability to fall asleep,” Chantel said.
“I would toss and turn for hours and would often have to shake my partner awake to get him to change sleeping positions so that it would minimise the noise he was making.
“I would often wake up tired and irritated.
“There were many nights where Jackson would end up taking the couch because it would be 1 a.m. and I still wouldn’t be asleep.”

“I was fully on board”
Two months ago, Jackson proposed the idea that the pair move into separate rooms, and despite being hesitant at first, Chantel decided to go forward with the idea.
Since moving into their own rooms, the couple has seen both their individual lives and their relationship improve dramatically.
“Since having separate beds, I have noticed such a massive change in Jackson’s mood and energy levels,” she said.
“We have both started going to the gym in the mornings and feel so much more motivated in our day-to-day lives—it’s amazing what eight hours of sleep can do.
“I hesitated a little at first because I was worried that it would cause issues in our relationship.
“I realised that I only thought that because of what society has told me is a healthy or unhealthy relationship.
“Once we communicated how the arrangement would look to us and our relationship, I was fully on board.”

“We need to ensure we’re both getting good sleep”
Chantel said the move had also seen her and Jackson spend more deliberate time together.
“This means not just scrolling on your phone in bed—actually planning movie nights together, nights where we have pillow talk for 30 minutes before bed.
“I believe it has fueled our individuality too.
“Jackson has gotten so much more into reading, and he is excited to have his own space to explore his hobbies.
“Not sleeping in the same bed with my partner is a sacrifice, of course.
“However, our health is so important, and therefore we need to ensure that we are both getting a good night’s sleep.
“For us, that means separate beds.
“It’s as simple as that; it’s not as deep or controversial as everyone is making it out to be.
“I think the idea that you HAVE to sleep with your partner is very outdated and is carried on the basis of instilled shame and stigma in relationships.”
