Convicted sex-trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell continues to maintain her innocence from prison, as previously sealed court documents linked to her longtime companion Jeffrey Epstein are made public.

And Maxwell’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, has spoken of his client’s bemusement that a woman is the only person in jail linked to Epstein’s sex-trafficking ring.

Aidala told NewsNation that Maxwell didn’t have anything to talk about “except maybe that if you look at this crime, this overall crime, it’s all about men abusing women for a long period of time, a lot of men … and there’s only one person in jail – a woman”.

“There’s not one guy behind bars for all of these crimes, this sex-trafficking,” Aidala said.

Later Aidala and another lawyer, Diana Fabi Samson, released a statement to The Messenger saying Maxwell took no position on the court’s decision to unseal the documents now being released.

Those disclosures had no bearing on Maxwell or her pending appeal, the statement said.

“Ghislaine’s focus is on the upcoming appellate argument asking for her entire case to dismissed,” their statement continued.

“She is confident that she will obtain justice in the second circuit court of appeals. She has consistently and vehemently maintained her innocence.”

Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years jail in 2022 after being convicted in a US court of helping Epstein sexually abuse teenage girls.

Epstein, 66, died in 2019 in a jail cell in New York while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The New York City medical examiner ruled the death was suicide, but conspiracy theories continue to swirl about the cause, and Maxwell has said from prison that she believed he was murdered.

The documents being released now were part of a defamation lawsuit brought against Maxwell, 62, in 2015 by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre. The lawsuit was settled in 2017.
