The Fiji cruiserweight belt will be the only title at stake in this Saturday’s main bout of the Bluewater Boxing Promotions at Suva’s Vodafone Arena.

This was confirmed to SUNsports yesterday by the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF).

The main bout still sees Fiji cruiserweight champion Alivereti Kauyaca taking on challenger Joseph Kwadjo.

BCF director Eroni Loganimoce told SUNsports that they have declined the promoter’s request to co-sanction the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Asia Pacific cruiserweight title, which was earlier reported to be the second title contested in the same bout.

Loganimoce said the new application regarding the WBF Asia Pacific cruiserweight title fight was lodged with BCF on Monday, February 12, while the binding contract signed by the boxers (Kauyaca and Kwadjo) was on December 12, last year.

“That was for the BCF (Fiji) cruiserweight title only,” Loganimoce said.

“There wasn’t any clue or a commitment by the promoter or WBF to confirm that there will be a review of the initial contract to include clauses like increase in purse for the boxers, greener pastures like possible defending the WBF title overseas or a world ranked opponent lined-up for the winner.

‘To silently allow the addition (of a title is a vicarious liability to BCF.”

The Suva-based lawyer said the application is done only once.

Loganimoce said, BCF and WBF is yet to forge a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would benefit our boxers and officials compared to International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and Professional Boxing Commission of New Zealand (PBCNZ).

“BCF is waiting for the Fiji based-WBF matchmaker or co-ordinator to provide us with a proposal.

“The promoter went ahead with the media and social media publication without prior approval from BCF regarding this vacant WBF Asia Pacific cruiserweight championship to be contested. This will not be entertained in future,” he added.
