Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Chief Operation Livai Driu has confirmed that police is beefing up on their other strategies in the North following the drug-related 42 arrests between January 17 and February 12 this year.
Police had uprooted more than 20,000 plants believed to be marijuana in Savusavu two weeks ago.
“We have not totally pulled out from the operation, we have other strategies in place,” ACP Driu said yesterday.
He supported calls made by chiefs of Vanua Levu regarding the need for police to strengthen its collaboration and relationship with the people (vanua) and church (lotu).
Earlier this month, Tui Nadogo Ratu Ilisaniti Malodali and Tui Wailevu Ratu Joseva Maivalili urged police to beef up their community outreach in remote villages.

The Fiji Police Force has increased its community and policing visibility at grassroots level following the drug bust according to ACP Driu.
“I would like to applaud the support all chiefs in the Northern division,” ACP Driu said.
“This is a good indicator in terms of our community policing, that they are concerned.”
ACP Driu said that Operation Vakarusa and Shallow Lagoon will allow them bust more drug operations and cultivations and also increase community outreach.
He has assured that the police will go back to villages and communities where drug raids were done to conduct more awareness on the implications of drugs.
