Child’s injuries ‘suspicious’: police

Detectives are calling for public help after a young child was found with critical injuries in southern Tasmania.

Tasmanian Police say they were called in to investigate on Friday morning after paramedics found the child at an address in Warrane about 1.10am.

On Saturday, detectives revealed they believe the child was injured in a “serious assault” but warned the investigation is expected to take “some time”.

“Police were called to the Royal Hobart Hospital around 5:20am … after a child presented with critical injuries that are believed to be suspicious,” a spokesman said.

“They remain in hospital in a critical condition.

“Police including officers from CIB, Forensics and uniform are continuing to investigate and conduct examinations.

“Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to call Bellerive CIB on 131 444 or report to Crime Stoppers.
