Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation and Fiji Water Foundation had funded a groundwater project at Madhuvani Sangam School in Rakiraki that will ensure un-interupted water supply to more than 80 students.

The project was commissioned last week making inconsistent and unreliable water supply a thing of the past.

“Our children used to carry extra bottles of water from home, water was being carted from either the manager’s home or president’s home, students would run into teachers’ quarters to get water to drink,” said head of school, Vishal Gounder.

“Teachers brought surplus water from home for their respective classes, the longest I can remember was the school didn’t find an amicable solution for as long as three months.

“Water had to be carted in gallons and buckets to clean washrooms.

Teacher on duty found it very difficult when students left the toilet in a mess.

We were very hesitant to have visitors and government officials at the school.”
