Dog Inspects Building Reduced to Rubble as Earthquake Death Toll Rises in Japan

A dog was seen inspecting the ruins of a building damaged by a deadly earthquake in Japan, in footage released by firefighters on Thursday, January 4. The animal can be seen sniffing around a pile of rubble as firefighters are at the scene in Ishikawa prefecture. As of Thursday, at least 84 people were confirmed to have died in the earthquake that struck on New Year’s Day, NHK reported. The outlet said “frantic rescue operations” were being carried out.
