Driving Rain Lashes Harbor in Southeast Massachusetts

Large parts of New England were lashed by high winds and heavy rain on Monday, December 18, while coastal areas were pounded further by high surf. The storm caused power outages in several states. In Massachusetts alone, more than 260,000 customers were without power by noon, officials said. This video from police in Wareham, south Massachusetts, shows conditions at Onset Beach, facing out toward Buzzards Bay. “What a day. Our boots should be dry by Christmas,” police wrote on Facebook. The worst of the storm had left the south coast by late afternoon, but dangerous wind gusts up to 45 mph could still be possible into the evening, weather officials warned.
