The Fiji Development Bank, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Fiji Beekeepers Association came together for a special two-day training that focused on enriching skills and increasing economic opportunities for the bee farmers in Savusavu.

FDB team, took the lead in explaining available loan products, tailoring their advice to help bee farmers access necessary funds.

This guidance resonated well, particularly with existing FDB clients who already value the Bank’s support.

FDB has provided more than half a million dollars’ worth of loans to bee farmers.

The training then shifted gears, with experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Fiji Beekeepers Association sharing their experience and practical knowledge in bee management.

FDB chief executive officer Saud Minam shared his vision for the group. “Beekeeping is becoming a popular form of agricultural activity in Fiji and FDB is doing its part in helping these bee farmers capitalise on its economic returns,” Mr Minam said.

“Earlier this year, the Fiji Beekeepers Association organised an inaugural weeklong Pacific Islands Beekeeping Congress held in-country and was attended by over 200 beekeeper enthusiasts from across the Pacific region.”

“This is proof that beekeeping has great potential to be a leading revenue earner not only for Oceania but for Fiji as well.

“We want to remain an integral part of the ‘buzz’ and we’re excited to provide the support these bee farmers need to continue developing their passions and fueling local economies.”
