The house
A classic freestanding two-storey terrace in Sydney’s inner west with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It has a charcoal black exterior, pink-walled
backyard and striking artworks throughout its white interiors.
Who lives here
Artist Jonny Niesche, wife Amber, their son Monte, 15, and Panda the dog.
What we did
“We removed the old staircase, walls and hallway to create a larger living room, then reworked the upstairs with Jonathan West’s joinery,” says Jonny. “Later, we opened up the kitchen and demolished the oversized laundry to
enlarge the courtyard.”
Favourite room
“The dining room – it’s small but full of meaning,” says Amber. “Jonny’s dad built the table as our wedding gift, and the art is by friends. It’s where we
love to gather.”
The ’hood
“We love the innerwest vibe – it’s full of great restaurants and neighbours, and we’re close to Jonny’s studio, the city, Monte’s school and the airport,” says Amber.
