Tavua’s Yeshnil Karan is adamant of winning more gold medals during the Sol2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
He started off winning the 10,000m finals on Monday night and today he is running in the 5000m.
Karan clocked 32 minutes 30 seconds to finish ahead of Hugh Kent of Guam and Papua New Guinea’s Dilu Bob at the National Stadium.
He also became the first athlete to the win gold medal at the new stadium.
“The weather was fine, not so hot,” Karan told SUNsports.
“It’s a new track, new facility and I hope to get medals in the coming days.”
Fiji’s Avikash Lal finished in seventh spot.
“I don’t know what happened to me out there. I will try to bounce back in the remaining events.”
The two will battle it out in the half marathon, 3000m steeple-chase, 1500m and 5000m.
