“I endured six excruciating months of chemotherapy and radiation – celebrating my 25th birthday while receiving radiation treatment, unable to swallow or taste food.
“Today, I share this post in celebration of my journey. I’m excited to announce that I am now a Cancer Survivor! The rehabilitation has been challenging, but each day gets a little easier, and I’m excited to be on the path to feeling like myself again.”
Thornberry, a pilates instructor, has been documenting her journey since going public about her battle.
“This video serves as a reminder of how I took my blessings for granted until I faced the reality of losing them. Life truly is precious,” she said in the post.
Nyika, a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist and world cruiserweight title contender, has been open about his fiancée’s battle with the disease.
“Life got different pretty quick and we’ve had to kind of adjust in every way, shape and form, just to manage spiritually, emotionally, physically, through this difficult time,” Nyika told Newstalk ZB last December.
“But Lex is a monster. She’s doing so well. She’s become an inspiration for me.
“To keep fighting and to keep pushing forward has been easy watching her go through what she’s going through and I’m very, very appreciative of the opportunity to be able to ride alongside somebody that’s going through something like this.”
Nyika and Thornberry announced their engagement in February last year.
