JAMES SMITH CREE NATION – Saskatchewan RCMP have charged a man for allegedly threatening people with a machete on a First Nation community that was the site of a mass stabbing almost a year ago.
Mounties say officers were called earlier this week to James Smith Cree Nation for reports of the threats.
Police say officers found the 51-year-old man outside a home in the community.
The man had allegedly assaulted an officer before police used a stun gun to arrest him.
Police say the officer who was assaulted suffered minor injuries.
The man faces assault charges and for possessing a weapon for a dangerous purposes, as well as for failing to comply with a release order condition.
In September, RCMP say Myles Sanderson killed 11 people and injured 17 others in a stabbing rampage.
Sanderson died in police custody a few days after the stabbings.
Coroners inquests that are to examine the killings and Sanderson’s death are set for early next year.
