The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) is advising all maritime stakeholders, boat owners, operators and passengers to exercise utmost caution and prudence in light of the anticipated adverse weather conditions forecasted for the upcoming week, especially considering the increased movements associated with the Christmas season.

“Given the forecasted adverse weather conditions, we strongly advise all maritime stakeholders and the general maritime public to prioritise safety,” says CMDR Joweli Cawaki, CEO MSAF.

“This is particularly crucial as we approach the festive season when maritime activities tend to increase.

MSAF recommends that individuals and organisations involved in maritime activities adhere to the safety guidelines such as being informed, regularly check weather updates and advisories from relevant sources and make informed decisions.

Exercise caution, if need be, consider postponing non-essential maritime
activities until weather conditions improve. Safety measures, ensure vessels are adequately equipped with safety gear.

Communication, maintain open lines of communication with authorities and fellow mariners, reporting any emergencies promptly.

MSAF will continue to monitor the weather situation closely and provide updates as and when necessary.
