Having a casino in Fiji would impact people in terms of employment and improve their standard of living, says the David Group of Fiji proposed-casino project head Sandeep Singh.

“And we need to try as much as possible to bring investors,” Mr Singh said.

“I have three investments, and if the Government does not agree with these three investments, I will pull out all three (and take them) to another country and we can go.

“Why we want to have it here is because it is my country – Fiji.”

Mr Singh said a proposal had been made by the investors to have a casino in Japan.

“I said no, let’s do it in Fiji. The people need revenue and we need to generate wealth.”

Mr Singh claimed only 20,000 people pay taxes in Fiji.

“We don’t even earn sufficient income to pay tax and contribute to the Government and national development.

“By doing short term investments, we are able to create that.

“So, that is why we are appealing, that we should not turn down projects, because one in 10 people are coming against it, but we look at the broader way of how we can help people.”

Mr Singh said their proposal would be submitted to the Government this year.
