Dog of the Week: Bindi

Some readers will be thinking, “I thought this dog was adopted already?” Yes, Bindi was on a trial adoption after spending around one year at our shelter. Unfortunately, she’s back with us.

But as we learn more, we can share more.

First, the things we already knew: She’s a gentle sweetheart who truly loves her people. In fact, she lived very gently with children, and she’s a people pleaser. A calm and lovable dog.

Walking her is a tough proposition, though. She’s very reactive to other dogs and wildlife, so when a stray rabbit zooms past, you’ll need to be aware. That was the biggest thing with her unsuccessful trial. Quite a small thing in the scheme of things, but hopefully it helps us find her a forever home this time around.

We know there’s a dog lover out there just right for this darling girl. Is it you?

Cat of the Week: Smee

Lots of cats are currently available for adoption, including kittens. The annual ‘Kitten Season” in the warmer months certainly brings in more kittens to our shelter, but honestly, the steady stream, despite winter, has not stopped.

Little Smee here is a great example of the brilliance of our foster care community. Smee was a stray and, like all strays, was very shy and uncertain when he arrived; very unsure around people.

Smee has grown into a lovely boy. He’s affectionate, and when he’s adjusted to you (give him a moment), he’ll be rubbing against your legs and showing love in no time.

Visit Smee and our other lovely cats at RSPCA ACT; there’s sure to be a cat or kitten just perfect for you.

Pawnotes: Several months ago, 17 pups arrived on our doorstep at the same time. After foster care, medication treatment, vaccinations, desexing and care, almost all have been adopted. Thank you, Canberra!
