Tawatana Village in West Makira is once again preparing to celebrate its annual traditional feast known as “Gnaumaebwaora”.

The cultural event, observed by the people of Arosi 1 in West Makira Province, takes place every first week of November and brings together the entire community in a time of sharing and thanksgiving.

During the celebration, villagers collect sea worms, which are cooked in an earth oven and later mixed into a traditional pudding called ‘Motu.’ 

The prepared food, referred to as Gnaumaebwaora, is then distributed among all families in the village. 

Each household receives its share of the sea worms, known locally as Ogu, along with the pudding, and the community gathers to enjoy the feast together.

This year’s Gnaumaebwaora celebration is scheduled for November 16, 2025, and excitement is already building as preparations get underway in Tawatana Village.
