Thank you for giving me this amazing gift and the chance to be a Mum

Thank you for giving me this amazing gift and the chance to be a Mum

Sorry it has taken me so long to write this, but how does one put into words the gratitude I feel towards you both for giving me this gift?

Saying a simple thank you does not seem enough.

I have always wanted to be a mum

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a Mum. I did not care about having a career, I just wanted to be a Mum.

But then to be told that the chances of me being able to fall pregnant were slim to none, well it’s safe to say I was in shock and upset.

As a woman, we are made to have babies and to find out I could not, I felt like a failure.

My IVF journey was not as long as most people’s, but it was still heartbreaking and mentally and physically draining. After several attempts using my own eggs, it was decided that I should not try any more as my eggs were unhealthy and just not enough.

So, my doctor suggested – and I agreed – to be placed on the wait list for donor embryos.

The long wait for a donor

I thought my chances of getting an embryo were not that great as I know people can wait years for that phone call.

So, after 14 months of waiting, I got the call I had been praying for. I was in utter surprise and shock but I was so excited about the possibility of my dream coming true.

As with all IVF treatments, there is no guarantee of success so from the moment I saw my doctor to start the process I was anxious and very hesitant.

Even when I was told I was pregnant, I still could not get excited. I had been dreaming of being a Mum for so long. I was scared every day that something would happen. But I made it through and I now have a beautiful baby.

So, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you both for giving me this amazing gift and the chance to be a Mum. Deciding to donate your embryos, I cannot imagine how hard that decision was to make but from a recipient, I thank you wholeheartedly.

There is nothing in this world that I could do or say that would be enough.

Even though I do not know either of you, to give this gift to someone shows how beautiful and kind you both are.

So once again, I thank you. I will forever be eternally grateful to you both.
