The Batemans Bay Seahawks are celebrating their 50th birthday with a sneak peek into the club’s inner workings and the people who make up the community-based organisation.
The new docu-series will cover both men’s and women’s senior, reserves and junior sides across the 2026 season.
The series will be created and produced by Ruby Garrety, a sports media student at the University of Canberra.
Ms Garrety said the project sheds light on what makes the club so special and how it has grown and developed over 50 years.
“The series is going to focus on the club’s history and their legacy, and the challenges they’ve faced, with the big highlight of being brought up to compete in AFL Canberra’s first grade competition,” Ms Garrety said.
“The club has both their men’s and their women’s teams playing in that grade for the first time, which is absolutely extraordinary.
“The amount of work that the club has gone through to get to where they are today, where they are competing, while also being competitive within AFL Canberra, has also been huge.
“A lot of the other clubs in the league would have thought, great, they’re in first grade. It’s another team that we can smash, but both teams have won multiple games and are proving they deserve their place.”

Ms Garrety said they welcomed her with open arms while filming the series, which has allowed her to showcase an honest and insightful look into the club.
“Community sports and grassroots sports are such an integral part of so many people’s lives,” she said.
“It gives such people a sense of family and belonging outside of their home lives. Opportunities like the documentary to show this are so significant.
“The Seahawks have an amazing culture that they want to be able to continue for generations. For many at the club, they grew up here and have dedicated a lot of their lives to it.”
While there is no confirmed premiere date for the series, Ms Garrety said it is likely to debut shortly after the 2026 season.
“It’s looking like it will release around mid to late September,” she said.
“I’m excited for people to see the uniqueness of the club and really see what goes into running a grassroots club like the Seahawks.
“They really have been amazing through this entire experience, and it has been a huge honour to tell the club’s story in their 50th year.”
