ACP Waqa said Kumar allegedly used a fake account to post defamatory comments against a senior member of Government, which was also in breach of his bail condition.
Kishore Kumar, 56, is the first in the country to be charged under the Cybercrime Act of 2021, for allegedly using a fake account to post defamatory comments.
The Acting Assistant Commissioner of Crime – ACP Mesake Waqa said Kumar was charged with one count of Unauthorised Access Acts in relation to computer data: Contrary to Section 7 of the Cybercrime Act No. 3 of 2021, and one count of criminal intimidation: Contrary to Section 375 (1)(b)(ii)(iv) of the Crime Act 2009.
Kumar appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.
ACP Waqa said Kumar allegedly used a fake account to post defamatory comments against a senior member of Government, which was also in breach of his bail condition.
Kumar was granted bail with strict conditions.
He will reappear on January 10, 2024.
