Police Probe Death

“The occupants of the boat took him out of the water and he was conveyed to the Nadi Hospital, however, he was pronounced dead,” SSP Vaisewa said

Police are investigating the death of a man who allegedly fell to his death from a sailing boat off the Malolo Island waters on Tuesday.

It is understood that the deceased was part of a church revival group that travelled to Yaro Island in Yasawa and were heading back to Lautoka when the incident occurred.

Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa said further details regarding the identity of the deceased were yet to be confirmed.

“The occupants of the boat took him out of the water and he was conveyed to the Nadi Hospital, however, he was pronounced dead,” SSP Vaisewa said

“Safety is a priority to consider. If the weather conditions are bad and the sea is rough, then do not go out to sea.

“Boat captains must also do all necessary checks for safety requirements before going out.”
