Al Hamd managing director Ashfaaq Ahmad Khan lived up to his promise when they sponsored the Police football side $10,000.

The cheque presentation was done at the Al Hamd Smart Living- Furniture and Lighting outlet in Raiwaqa, Suva, yesterday.

The sponsorship is to prepare the Police football team defend the Ratu Sukuna Bowl football title against the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) at the end of this month.

“Last year, our company supported Fiji Police $5000 and on the same day I promised them $10, 000 for next year (this year),” Khan said.

They won the Cup and I’m happy to fulfil my promise.

Fiji Police Soccer (Football) Committee president Superintendent Nilesh Lakhan thanked Khan and Al Hamd Smart Living for their sponsorship.

“We’ve won the Cup two years in a row. We love to have him (Khan) onboard as we continue this journey, year in and year out. Our wish is that his company continues to excel.”

However, Mishra confirmed that they would be without 16 of their key players in this year’s challenge.

“Six of our players are with the national football team in the Pacific Games in Solomon Islands while 10 are living with their district teams to play in the Pacific Cup in New Zealand,” he added.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Vodafone Ratu Sukuna tournament kicks off on November 27, with the main rugby match between defending champions Fiji Police Force and Republic of Fiji Military Forces scheduled for Friday, December 1, Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

Leading up to the main clash, sports such as netball, volleyball, soccer, cricket, boxing and for the first time touch rugby will be played in Suva.

Police Touch Rugby official Sergeant Paul Darroch talked about the new sport in this year’s Ratu Sukuna tournament, and the excitement building up for the inaugural challenge scheduled Tuesday, November 28, at the Nasova grounds at 9am.
