South Pacific Boxing promotions director Mohammed Shammem has finally laid his hand on International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Super Welterweight Asia Pacific title in Canada.
This belt will be contested between Olympian and undefeated Winston Hill, and Jyl White of Melbourne, Australia.
Shameem said he is looking forward to the event take centre stage at Prince Charles Park in Nadi next Saturday.
“The cost for the IBO title is US$4000 which includes the sanction fees,” he said from Canada yesterday.
“This is to reassure the boxing fans that it is taking shape. To be honest it is all about the passion of Fiji boxing, I am just living the dream of my late dad who was a promoter during his hey days. It is in my blood.”
Shameem recalls following his dad for the various programs set by his father which includes Savenaca Naliva Snr, Sunia Cama and the legendary Sakaraia Ve.
“We need to produce more pro boxers, and this is my aim. We need to make sure that it is sustainable in the sense that we have more boxers coming up, so the fans are always on the lookout. Not just focussing on the same boxer’s year in and year out. Having overseas boxers to fight in Fiji will spice things up and that is the way forward.”
