Why Change of Venue? Sorovaki Tells

Sorovaki said Nadi would be able to host the next Farebrother challenge at Prince Charles Park next Saturday provided they win against Lautoka, tomorrow.

The reason why tomorrow’s INKK Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy challenge clash between Jack’s Nadi and challengers Fiji Pine Lautoka had to be played Sigatoka and not Nadi has been clarified.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday Fiji Rugby Union general manager operations and development Sale Sorovaki said the unavailability of the ground in Prince Charles Park, Nadi, was the reason of shifting the Farebrother match to Lawaqa Park.

It has been normal practice that the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy challenge is always hosted by the trophy holders.

“The rugby league sporting body had already booked and paid for it,” Sorovaki said.

“The challenges were determined very late because Suva, Tailevu, Naitasiri and Nadi still had one game pending, which they played last weekend.

“Once those games were completed, we were able to determine the order in which the teams were going to challenge.”

Sorovaki said Nadi would be able to host the next Farebrother challenge at Prince Charles Park next Saturday provided they win against Lautoka, tomorrow.

“It’s a challenge for us to secure grounds because we have to fight with other sports like rugby league and soccer. We’re trying to manage it, but we realise it’s a challenge every year unless unions come up with their own grounds.”

Sorovaki said FRU would continue to communicate and manage the booking of venues for matches in an efficient manner.
